Abbott Ireland Diagnostic Division – Longford:

In 1994, Abbott founded a diagnostics manufacturing facility in Sligo with the purpose of producing reagents and products for blood screening.

Abbott expanded its operations in Ireland in 2004 through the establishment of an additional facility in Longford. Initial operations commenced at the facility in December 2004, and the introduction of the first product, Architect® TSH, occurred in December 2005.

Abbott relies heavily on the Longford facility to assist in meeting the rising global demand for diagnostic testing in areas including cancer, infectious disease, thyroid, and cardiovascular disease.

Twenty-eight diagnostic reagent products for thyroid function, fertility, pregnancy, cardiology, renal, and metabolism are produced by Abbott in Longford.
